NOTABLE EVENTS IN AND AROUND OUR VILLAGE

This page contains items of news that have ceased to be current and are left here for interest.
"Current" news (i.e. within the last year or so - we are a small village!) can be found here!

HORSTED KEYNES .COM  WEBMASTER APPEARS ON "COUNTDOWN"

We hope that you don't mind our blowing our own trumpet, but if you are a regular viewer of "Countdown" on Channel4 you might have seen joint webmaster Chris when he appeared as a contestant on "the words and numbers game", during the first days of February 2004. The shows were in fact recorded in Leeds at the beginning of December and despite scoring 60 points Chris didn't beat the champion however he does have a new teapot in his room!

Appearing on this program is a great accolade for a boy who is just 14 taking part in an adult show which it is common knowledge has one of the hardest acceptance criteria in any TV quiz game. In fact Chris had to audition twice before he was accepted, after the first audition (he found two 9 letter words!) it was thought that he was, at the age of 11, just a little too young to appear in an adult program! It is rumoured that one of Chris' teachers at Oathall Community College in Haywards Heath did not manage to pass the audition at all!

A local resident Jim Broomfield helped stop two men who were trying to raid the Post Office. The local paper made it their lead story complete with photos from this web site.....

The Crown Inn was struck by lightning in July. We have devoted a whole section to the incident and to keep you up-to-date with rebuilding work.

Then WE made the news. A nasty virus struck the village and we tried to help sort it out. Take a look at your webmasters.

Change of HorstedKeynes.Com Telephone Number
It's rather like loosing an old friend, but with the arrival (at last) of Broadband it becomes uneconomic for us to retain our ISDN Internet connection and the telephone numbers that went with it. Unfortunately BT are very awkward when it comes to people changing their service and they won't release our old number to an ordinary line. Therefore we have had to switch to a new telephone number, and from now on you can contact us at 791624.
We still sit in the same seats, at the same computers, and our email address remains the same.

We would be most grateful if web sites that have linked to us would amend their records as soon as possible. Your webmasters, May 2004.

Can we borrow your windowsill?
Ludwell and the road to Haywards Heath

As you can see, one of the more popular aspects of this site are the live pictures that are shown in the corner of most pages. Former residents who have moved away from the area as well as people from all over the world like to see what the Sussex countryside and weather are doing and we are pleased to meet their requests.

Unfortunately we don't live in the village centre and therefore the most interesting view that we can show is a distant sight of the Haywards Heath road junction. Do you have a view of the green or the church for example, and would you be willing to install a web camera so that the whole Internet can share your good view?

You would need to be a Broadband subscriber and be on a tariff that allows full time connection but we could arrange to lend you a computer and hook it up to your existing computer to send the pictures on to our site. Alternatively if you leave your computer on all the time we could simply connect a camera to your existing setup. A USB camera uses less than 1% of your system resources so it won't slow your work down! The cost of running whatever setup (perhaps a few pence a day) would have to be donated by yourself. No monitor is needed for a dedicated camera computer so the setup can be quite small.

If you can help, or can suggest a way that we could increase our live picture content please do get in touch.

Thanks,
Your webmasters.
