CONDITIONS OF USING OUR CONTENT
WHAT EXACTLY CAN AND
CAN'T I DO WITH YOUR PICTURES?
This website has been on line and evolving
continually since 1995, which makes it one of the oldest on the
internet. It contains many hundreds of pictures and probably many
hundreds of thousands of words.
Unfortunately some unscrupulous web sites can
see nothing wrong in quite simply copying our pages onto theirs. It's
a fact that web sites such as Google look for unique content to
improve any web site rating so copying from us - even when the site
copied to does not cover the same subject - can raise the offending
site in the search rankings. You may notice that we are usually at the
very top of a Google search for Horsted Keynes. That's why!
Recently one web site - probably out of
ignorance - decided to copy 20 of our pages including the pictures
(and one or two of our errors!) onto theirs! It took the threat of
legal action to get our content removed although it is still visible
on one of the internet history sites. The site simply could not
understand that they had done anything wrong!
So what can and what can't you do with the
information on this site?
Firstly you are most welcome to download and
print out any small part (say a page or so) to use for your private
family research etc. You are also most welcome to copy any picture on
this site, frame it and hang it on your wall, indeed where possible we
have made a higher quality version of some pictures available. Simply
try right clicking to see what comes up.
What you may NOT do is then sell copies of
the picture in a shop, stall or boot fair without asking us first. The
reason for this is that whilst we hold permission to publish every
single picture on this site we may not necessarily hold copyright to
it - although given their age this is probably no longer true. In other words the person who took the picture, or their
relatives, may want some money if YOU make money from their work.
So if you do want to copy one of our pictures
onto your web site or for sale simply drop us an email giving as much
detail as possible. We will check and see if there is any reason why
you may not do what you want - we like to say "yes"! If there is no
problem and we do give permission then we require an acknowledgment
that the original came from our site with a simple caption like
"Thanks to HorstedKeynes.Com". We would not normally require any
payment for this as long as you ask us FIRST!
Some of the articles on this site are quite
lengthy and might easily form the basis for a book. Where we have used
others work - and this is only in two places - we have clearly
acknowledge this. If you wanted to publish our work then that would be
subject to normal literary negotiation. In other words if you wanted
to sell the book - as opposed to giving it away or for charity - then
we would expect some payment.

not received a reply within a maximum of 1 week (unlikely, as this is
