POST OFFICE RAID IN HORSTED KEYNES

Gallant residents fight off raiders who attempt to rob our local Post Office on 27 October 2003.

Postmistress Trisha Swift and former postmaster Jim Brimfield who lives next door to the Post Office fought off two raiders who struck shortly after the village office reopened for the afternoon at about 2.15. Jin Brimfield became suspicious after seeing the two men on mobile 'phones outside the Post Office so decided to follow them into the shop where one of the men grabbed hold of Tricia Swift's hands. As this happened Jim Brimfield grabbed the other raider round the neck and wrestled him to the floor. The two raiders decided that the opposition was too great and made off down the hill away from the Post Office. If you saw anything suspicious then the police would appreciate your call, ring 0845 60 70 999 and say "Operation Benefit" to the operator who will put you through to the right extension.

As our exclusive pictures show nobody was hurt and the raiders are thought to have made off in the direction of Haywards Heath or North via East Hoathly towards Crawley or East Grinstead.
